Certification Statement
The “Inertinite Gold Certificate” is awarded to biochars in which ≥ 95 % of the organic carbon is classified as inertinite and the mean random reflectance (Ro) ≥ 3 %. Inertinite represents the most stable form of organic carbon in the environment, exhibiting resilience comparable to that of inorganic minerals and ensuring long-term carbon storage (1).
Disclaimer
- Certification is valid for three (3) months from the submission date.
- These findings apply only to the submitted sample(s), as provided by the Client or a designated third party. Fusinite Ltd assumes no responsibility for the declared origin or representativity of the material.
- The values reported in this certificate do not account for batch or production variability. Assessment of such variability requires systematic sampling and analysis over a defined period.
- The analytical uncertainty is generally within a relative standard error (RSE) of ≤ 10%.
- Carbon and hydrogen contents were analyzed according to ISO 29541:2010. The Inertinite Benchmarking (IBRo2) includes Random Reflectance Analysis (Ro), following Sanei et al. (2025)(2), the ITPE Procedure, and ISO 7404-5:2009, together with reactive organic carbon and mineral carbon analysis using the Rock-Eval 6 method. For the complete analytical protocol, see Sanei et al. (2025)(2).

What is Fusinite?
The name "Fusinite" is derived from fusinite, a type of inertinite maceral commonly found in coal and organic matter. Fusinite is renowned for its high degree of carbonization and extreme resistance to oxidation, making it a key indicator of long-term carbon stability and geological permanence.
By adopting this name, Fusinite reflects its mission: delivering scientifically grounded verification of carbon storage security for the global carbon dioxide removal (CDR) industry.
